On behalf of Volunteer for Seniors (VFS) Easton, Massachusetts, I (Neil Dutta) got the opportunity to interview Mr. Krishna Mohan on August 28th, 2024. He was raised by his single mother. After completing his high school education in 1962, he took training for teaching students up to 7th class in 1963-64. Additionally, to support his family during those days, he worked in the electricity department and served as a clerk for 2 years. On the advice of some of his well-wishers, he left his native place and moved to Hyderabad, the state capital in 1966 and served as a teacher for 6th and 7th graders and he taught Mathematics and English for nine years. He donated significant portion of his time towards various non-profit causes including construction of schools, hospitals, temples, etc.

While talking about his personal life, he mentioned to me that he married his childhood friend Smt. Suseela Devi in 1971 and together they have a son named Sriram born in 1972. His son serves in Indian Navy, Ministry of Defense and holds a senior rank. Mr. Krishna Mohan has two grandchildren (granddaughter and grandson). He mentioned that he is very content with his life and staying alone in A.J.R. Nagar of Sri Ramchandra Mission near Anakapalli after demise of his wife in January 2022.
During the interview he provided me valuable life lesson

I am deeply grateful to Mr. Krishna Mohan for allowing me the opportunity to interview him. From our conversation, I learned valuable lessons about life’s purpose, community support, and the importance of volunteerism. He taught me that, despite life’s challenges and obstacles, hard work and sincerity can help us achieve our goals. I was genuinely inspired by Thaatha’s determination and his humble approach toward me.
During our Zoom interview, Krishna Mohan encountered technical difficulties, yet instead of postponing, he walked 10-15 minutes to his neighbor’s house mid-interview and continued our conversation. This exemplifies his remarkable dedication and his respect for someone he was meeting for the first time. He also took the time to ask about me, my high school, and expressed sincere appreciation for all the volunteers and seniors within the Volunteering for Seniors (VFS) community.
I am extremely thankful for Mr. Krishna Mohan’s time and the valuable life lessons he shared. He even sent his best wishes to my family as we concluded the interview.
